More Natsume Ono coverage is here! This is an podcast interview with fans of the mangaka herself at Kinokuniya! Enjoy!
This past Monday, I had the honor of attending a meet-and-greet for the legendary Japanese musician & co-founder of X Japan, Yoshiki. It was held at the NYC headquarters of Sirius XM Satellite Radio to celebrate the upcoming premiere of Yoshiki Radio, an hour-long radio show that plans to spotlight Japanese music and other tidbits of Japanese culture.
A good crowd of media & fans came to congratulate the icon for doing a show that hopes to get people closer to the Eastern side of the world. Some awesome sushi was served by NOBU as well. There was also a press conference where Yoshiki was asked about X Japan coming back together, the purpose behind Yoshiki Radio, his English, which American artist he would like to collaborate with (someone asked about Lady Gaga), making a global impact outside of Asia, his relief efforts for the Yoshiki Foundation, among other interesting topics.
Fans were also allowed to take pictures with Yoshiki afterwards. One notable Japanese female was literally speechless standing next to him. It was very adorable. The crowd was also treated to a couple of new songs by X JAPAN, “Jade” and “Scarlet Love Song”. He even mingled with fans and took photos with many of them.
If you ask me, I believe Yoshiki Radio is needed to help Japanese music break into the American market. Yoshiki is a big name (if not one of the biggest names in Japan) and he will do the best he can to spread the message across. If he was able to get on ABC News and get praise at Lollapalooza last year, then who knows what else the man (or his marketing crew) is capable of. Though it depends to see how much Yoshiki will cover in one short hour every month.
Yoshiki Radio will premiere this Friday, May 27, 8pm EST on SiriusXM. Afterwards, it will be broadcast on the 1st Sunday of every month, 9pm EST on “The Boneyard”, a SiriusXM channel dedicated to classic hard rock.
