One more thing we almost forgot to post up is a neat, little anime event happening in NYC this weekend called AniMiniCon Soho. As the title suggests, it’s a three-day mini-convention held at Soho. Here’s the press release.

PRESS RELEASE: THE SOHO GALLERY FOR DIGITAL ART PRESENTS ANIMINICON SOHO: AN ANIME, MANGA AND JAPANESE CULTURE EVENT FOR NEW YORK CITY AREA FANS, FEATURING THE DEBUT OF THE SOHO HOST CLUB

NEW YORK CITY, July 6, 2010 – ANIMINICON SOHO takes place from Friday, July 30 to Sunday, August 1 at THE SOHO GALLERY FOR DIGITAL ART. It features the first appearance of the SOHO HOST CLUB, a group of young gentlemen fans of anime, manga and Japanese culture. They will be circulating among the attendees and presiding at several of the events.

Where a typical gallery would have canvases, THE SOHO GALLERY FOR DIGITAL ART has high-resolution computer-controlled screens, creating the first gallery devoted to the of display digital art, both photographic and computer-created, as well as any traditional work of art that can be scanned in at a high resolution. For ANIMINICON SOHO, the screens will show anime and manga art, as well as photorealistic scenes that will transform the gallery into a “Virtual Tokyo.”

SCHEDULED EVENTS INCLUDE:
– A MUSICAL GALA featuring live performances of music from anime series, with corresponding scenes projected onto a large digital screen, presented by professional musician Alexandra Honigsberg and special guest Dane Robinson.
– A VICTORIAN TEA PARTY sponsored by the Harney Tea Company (www.harney.com) and featuring the SOHO HOST CLUB. Attendees will be encouraged to wear Victorian, Gothic and Lolita-style fashions and/or also bring their Asian Ball-Jointed dolls for display and interaction with other collectors.
A MEET-AND-GREET COSPLAY RECEPTION for fans and professional guests. Attendees will be encouraged to wear anime, manga and/or traditional Japanese-style costumes and meet the SOHO HOST CLUB. Gift certificates to KINOKUNIYA BOOKS will be offered as prizes for best costumes.

THE SOHO GALLERY FOR DIGITAL ART is available for public and private functions of all kinds, as the PRIVATE EVENTS link at www.sohodigart.com shows.

So, if you can’t make it to Otakon or want to see how a host club will be like, then come on by AniMiniCon Soho. The event begins tomorrow night at 6PM.
